Review of Jaws (1975) by Brett H — 15 Jul 2015
Steven Spielberg's landmark film, Jaws, is about as perfect as a movie can get with a thrilling story, brilliantly fleshed-out characters, superb direction, and unparalleled special effects that much like Jurassic Park's effects, have never been topped! From the first scene you are thrust straight into this incredibly tense shark movie that uses your imagination to scare you and you don't see much of the shark until halfway through (though this was because the shark malfunctioned; we're all better for it).
The cast embodies their characters flawlessly with Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and Robert Shaw owning the screen and bouncing off of one another effortlessly. The famous score is one of the all-time greats and the intensity of this film scared an entire generation out of going in the water! The entire second half is one of the greatest showdowns ever put to screen and you are gripping your seat in anticipation right up until the end, never knowing when the shark will attack next.
It has too many classic lines/scenes to name, but watching it again on the big screen was a real treat as I got to experience the OG "Blockbuster" and it gets better each time I see it. There never has, and never will be a better shark movie: EVER.
