Review of Jauja (2014) by Akash S — 15 Sep 2015
Brilliantly marketed, Jauja teases so much that just isn't there: amid Patagonian frontier, as Argentine troops annihilate the natives, Danish surveyor's teen daughter runs off with a soldier. He rides off into the unknown looking for them.
But the film is painfully slow, worshipping the landscape like a nature film and rapidly losing track of the plot. Ultimately, Jauja offers a couple of dreamlike alternate endings to the parent/child separation theme.
Very unsatisfying.
