If you're looking for a seriously scary movie, I don't think any of the Jason movies work. Their best attribute is the schlock, camp, and occasionally shock factor. For that, I found Jason X very enjoyable - it's basically a spoof of the whole series, and makes fun of itself.
It's so bad it's good, and that seems intentional in this case. It's quite over the top, and I liked it.
