Review of Jason X (2001) by Samuel B — 09 Mar 2014
Jason Voorhees is a horror legend. Friday the 13th is a film series that everybody thats a fan of the horror genre will know the name of. I saw this movie late at night on Netflix and thought I would give it a watch. I don't think this movie was meant to be taken seriously....
Lets face it, when people are out of ideas, they go into weird places like Space... Other movies like Dracula 3000, Leprechaun in Space and things like that were unnecessary and dumb. This movie fits right with them.
I remember that night, shortly after watching it, I looked up why this was made. It turned out that they wanted to spew out a Jason film in cinemas for a filler before Freddy vs Jason came out. So I'm just spitballing here but... I think they just had one guy say "Oh, lets put him in space for no apparent reason! DURHUR!".
Seriously?! Why Space?! I understand trying to get something fresh and new out but at least be more original then just space! It totally confuses us for how it links to Freddy vs Jason (if it was even counted as being in the series unless they realized they were stoned coming up with this and then found out it was a bad idea so they just tried to cover it up.).
I don't want to get into detail about this movie because its no oscar or memorable film. Lets just say everyone involved wanted your money. Acting was bad, Story is dumb, Characters are unlikable, SFX are cheese but.... There are just a few positives to this.
Some of the kills are pretty decent and Cyber Jason was pretty cool looking. That's about it and it actually redeemed a star for that...
Overall, Jason X is a silly, stupid movie. I would only watch it if there is absolutely nothing on tv and you have nothing to do on a late night. Other than that, avoid it at all costs.
