Review of Jason Lives - Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) by Daniel P — 21 May 2010
Probably the strongest of the initial eight Paramount Friday the 13th films, Jason Lives is also the most knowingly self-referential, with a good mix of camp and ironic humor (those who cite the first two as the best films probably won't like this instalment).
Thom Matthews is, for me, the strongest of the three actors to portray the character of Tommy Jarvis, who first appeared in The Final Chapter, and most of the other performances are either strong or enjoyably bad.
There's some genuinely tense moments here enlivened by inventive direction, and the deaths (surely the raison d'être of the franchise) are original without being too excessive.
