Forget Jason going to hell, for this franchise had gone there a long time ago. Paramount Pictures knew this, and so sold the rights to New Line Cinema for this ninth installment of the Friday the 13th series.

Following on from the flawed but fun Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell pretty much re-writes the mythology. Rather than being an unstoppable killing machine, he is now a supernatural being who is able to bodyhop via some large wierd slugs, which explains his longevity through this series.

So throughout this film, we see Jason switching bodies each time his old one gets a little stabbed/shot/impaled. Kane Hodder once again portrays Jason, his huge bulk and physicality put to good use, and there's plenty of gore (a girl gets torn in half mid-sexual intercourse!) to enjoy.

But you can see that the series was running out of steam and ideas by this point, and despite nice cameos from the Necomicon from The Evil Dead and Freddy Krueger's gloved hand (which eventually lead to Freddy Vs Jason), there isn't a whole lot in Jason Goes to Hell worth recommending.
