Review of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) by James O — 23 Jul 2011
After the tremendous flop that was Jason Takes Manhattan (Part 8), Paramount decided to sell the rights to the F13 series. New Line Cinema picked it up and their first film they made was intended to end it once and for all.
You may be able to kill Jason, but you can't kill the box office. Director Adam Marcus decided to take a different approach to the series and mix Friday the 13th with The Hidden (another New Line movie, coincidentally).
In first couple of minutes, the SWAT team blows up Jason. Now that's how you start a movie! the entire middle part of the film does not feature Jason, but a demon worm that possesses people with the spirit of Jason by entering their mouths.
After the worm is through, it causes the host's body to horrifically melt. Yeah, Jason Goes to Hell is probably the goriest of the series (if you watch it unrated). Due to the absence of Jason, this is hated by many people and I can't understand that.
It's gory, funny, and full of references (the Necronomicon from the Evil Dead movies makes an appearance). Kane Hodder is great for the limited screen time he gets as Jason, but he does play a security guard who is killed by someone possessed by Jason.
John D. LeMay is also very good.
