Review of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) by Luc L — 29 Aug 2012
Despite some story holes and some unexplained plot development, this is actually an fun, entertaining, nasty, gory sequel thanks to some stylish direction and a better than expected cast. I know, this disappointed some fans that Jason was barely in this one.
Since he was switching bodies! (A plot point that it was used in the underrated science-fiction action-thriller "The Hidden") and only through a voorhees he can be reborn and he can be himself again! Williams and Culp are the stand-outs of the sequel.
Especially Williams plays the coolest bounty hunter and Culp gets to play Jason, he is certainly the best one and most violent! Hodder is back as Jason but only in the strange opening sequence, where he gets ambush! and the ending.
Those are certainly one of the most entertaining parts of the movie as well. Fans had mixed feelings towards this one. It is one of my favorite sequels of the series. Skip the R-Rated cut, where the movie looks choppy.
Watch the unrated instead, the movie plays more coherent with the violent deaths, gore and sound effects comparing to the R-Rared cut. Well produced for a movie, that was made for under $3 million. Great KNB make-up effects.
