Review of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) by Ian B — 17 Feb 2009
I'm sure after Jason Takes Manhattan the filmmakers thought it might be a good idea to throw away the series mythology and start from scratch, but Jason Goes to Hell has not aged well. The supernatural twist of Jason being the vessel for some body-hopping demonic snake is just extremely silly (and a blatant rip-off of the sci-fi flick The Hidden).
So Jason is "killed" in the opening minutes of the film and then we're treated to various characters being possessed by the infamous demon snake until the final act where Jason is re-born, gets in a fist fight and is then dragged to hell.
About the only things the movie has going for it are some extremely gory effects (the tent scene is a definite highlight), some decent acting and above average production values. I'm sure some fans appreciated the attempt to try something new, but I found all this to be another low point for the series.
Although the ending, featuring a razor gloved cameo, is enough to put a smile on any horror fans face.
