Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Aaron T — 09 Sep 2016
2*.
Jason Bored. So Bored.
Our favourite humourless rouge operative is back to fight his arch nemesis... the camera tripod.
Let's party like it's 2002 again. The hand held camera is back in full effect y'all. (Killing any and all sense of geography in fight/chase scenes.) Let's not forget about those edgy over exposed flashbacks either. Love that!
Bourne's mission: to umm...find out more about his past again...I guess. Oh and maybe thwart whatever the CIA has cooked up...again.
It wasn't that long ago when Spectre, the latest instalment of James Bond franchise was released to the world. It was widely criticized for being out of touch and clichéd. Jason Bourne couldn't let Bond get away with it! So he made a movie that was totally derivative.
Personally I've never found the character of Bourne all that interesting. He's hard to route for or care about. Even as an empty vessel for the audience to occupy he's just not someone I wish to be.
I didn't find this instalment any better or worse than previous ones. It's not timeless. It's just a product of its time....which has come and gone.
