Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Keri Anne H — 25 Sep 2016
Jason Bourne doesn't break any new ground, but it brings the character and the crew back, along with everything that fans loved about the original trilogy. As we've come to expect Greengrass delivers some spectacular chases and fight sequences, all put together with a smart, well written screenplay that touches on contemporary themes, while also delving deeper into Bourne's past and introducing an engaging mystery.
The acting is as strong as ever and while the structure is familiar, the character confrontations feel spontaneous and unpredictable. The pacing is not perfect however, some sequences go on for a little too long and there is a subplot that doesn't affect the story till the last act.
Ultimately, even though an argument can be made that Bourne's story has been told, this new installment does a good job at getting us engaged into his search for answers once again and it makes for two hours of thrilling entertainment.
