Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Adam M — 15 Dec 2016
Jason Bourne review. I regard the Bourne Trilogy as one of the best movie trilogies of all time. It is just so consistent and exciting. Not one of the movies lets the series down (and yes I am excluding Bourne Legacy from this entire review).
You can say that other trilogies may have an individual brilliant movie (Pirates of the Caribbean, Matrix, Godfather) but then something lets it down. When a series seems so complete (like Toystory) it really does seem strange to make yet another movie.
And that is exactly what has happened here. Jason Bourne was completely not necessary. And yet I had a great time and thought it was really well done. The thing about the Bourne series is that each movie doesn't really rely on the other movies.
You can pick up the 3rd movie in the series and it will feel fresh and fun and you can just jump right in. That is because all the movies are so incredibly similar. "A man who doesn't know what is going on tries to run and hide as he pieces things together while being chased by agents being directed by sinister men standing behind computer screens on the other side of the world".
Awesome detective work, realistic security surveillance, great fight sequences, amazing car chases and so much tension. I love the movies and this one was really just as good. What the Bourne movies do is take a tried and tested great formula and whack it into new locations with cool twists.
Now if you didn't like The Force Awakens because it was pretty much a copy of A New Hope, then you probably won't enjoy Jason Bourne. But if you just like Bourne movies because they are super cool, then you will enjoy this one.
