Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Paul R — 05 Jan 2017
I've finally caught up on a couple of films I missed recently and Jason Bourne was sadly a bit of a disappointment. It's not a bad film, it's just wholly unnecessary, it doesn't move his story forward in any way and is not a patch on the original trilogy which I felt ended perfectly.
If there was a reason to bring him out of hiding again then we may have had a better film but the films storyline is its weakest element. Paul Greengrass brings his usually visual flair to proceedings and there are some nice chase sequences but barely any hand to hand combat scenes which the series has become famed for. There is nothing to compare to the window leap and apartment fight from "The Bourne Ultimatum" which remains the best sequence of any of the films.
The best thing I can say about it is that it's a hell of a lot better than most action films coming out of Hollywood these days but as a Bourne film it's underwhelmingly subpar.
