Unnecessary is the best way to describe this movie. Its like the first part of a 2 part story where something major is planned for the finale so the first part is just treading water, except that almost nothing happens that movies the story along to any form of coherent ending.
I think you could easily skip this one and just wait around for the inevitable next chapter.
