Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Brett T — 07 Jun 2017
Jason Bourne is the film we all were waiting for, but maybe not the one we needed. Jason Bourne finds Bourne in a tortured position, finding he can only use the skills he has to make a living. As Bourne finds himself drawn back into a world of lies and secrecy, an assassin that aims to bring Bourne's future to a close may have had a hand in his past as well.
Gritty and violent action, paired with clever and crafty sequences brings Jason Bourne to a familiar level of intensity, but that may be all too familiar. Following similar beats of the previous films, Jason Bourne sometimes struggles to find originality and uniqueness, something that brings some of its sequences to a crawl.
Fortunately, there are some smiles to be had at the signature Jason Bourne moves, and the character's undying manifesto to know the truth. Unfortunately, there is some missed potential and risks untaken, that may leave a little to be desired.
But, all in all, with its thrilling action sequences, captivating character drama, and a fulfilling message, Jason Bourne is a strong entry in the franchise.
