Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Peter T — 21 Aug 2016
Quite a disappointment, largely in my view because the writers forgot the keys to their earlier success. We liked Bourne because unlike Bond, with his space stations and invisible cars, this seemed real.
We imagined the fights could really look like this. Bourne was a superagent, but a believable one. Contrast that with this movie, where Nicky Parsons, the character played by Julia Stiles, hacks the CIA in 15 seconds, where a SWAT tactical vehicle drives through other cars in Vegas like a hot knife through butter, and where Bourne himself can bust a trained boxes jaw in a single punch.
It all seemed contrived, and plot confusing. I stsill don't know why Bourne was after the head of the CIA - was the Director, played by Tommy Lee Jones, involved in Treadstone? It was unclear. Kudos to Matt Damon, he still plays a good tough guy, but I suspect this might be the end of the franchise - two strikes (and the Legacy was a strike) and you are out.
