Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Peter A — 18 Oct 2016
Pardon me while I yawn! But there is a knack to thrilling an audience. Mainly, in moments of high tension we have to believe that the hero on screen is in dire trouble. That never happens here because Jason Bourne is depicted as being invincible. In contrast those wishing him harm possess half his intellect, cannot fight and fail to shoot straight. So once we have established that Jason Bourne is invincible - which we do pretty early on - this is one long car chase, or car wreck of a film. Once we know that Bourne is a super-hero that will survive a fall from a helicopter with only a scratch, it doesn't really matter how tight the corner he is placed in becomes. Predictably, he will scale the Grand Canyon or cross the Rubicon before breakfast, making a fool of all those adversaries lined up against him in the process, making a mockery of any plot. There is a plot of sorts, but it appears to have been constructed during a cigarette break - probably on the back of a cigarette packet! .
Considering the big names that contributed to this damp squid of an affair it is a shocking waste. Suitable for those with a mental age of twelve or below only!
