Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Alex M — 02 Nov 2016
This is an unnecessary installment in the Bourne Franchise. While I enjoyed the return of Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass to the franchise, I felt that the resolution at the end of the Bourne Ultimatum was the perfect end to the trilogy.
The positives are:
1) The locations are excellent, especially Greece and Las Vegas.
2) The pacing of the film is good.
3) Tommy Lee Jones is great as always.
4) Vincent Cassel as "The Asset" was excellent.
The negatives are:
1) Tired premise.
2) Motorcycle chase, car chase, chase, chase, chase. I'm tired of chase scenes.
3) Matt Damon looks old and I'm not buying the character's sharpness in fight scenes.
4) Keeping the franchise alive. I would have preferred the character's death.
If you're looking for a fun popcorn movie, the action is great. If you're looking for something new, the movie doesn't offer much other than the fact that his father was responsible for the program and he was recruited under false pretenses (yawn).
I hope that this is the last Bourne movie but considering the fact that it was profitable, it probably won't be.
