Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Movie M — 26 Mar 2017
"Jason Bourne" brings quite a bit to the Bourne franchise, however it doesn't reach the excitement and thrill of the first three in the series. This movie was basically a modernized, 2016 version of a Bourne film, the car chases were done with new, fancy cars, the technology was upgraded to make the agencies stay futuristic, and the all around feel of the movie was just basically a 2010s action movie.
There was a lot to like about "Jason Bourne" - the acting was amazing, Matt Damon (Jason Bourne) put up a performance nothing short of what he was able to do back in his first three Bourne films, and Tommy Lee Jones (CIA Director Robert Dewey) and Alicia Vikander (Heather Lee) added a tremendous amount to the high quality acting that we get with this movie.
The only problem I had with this movie was that it felt too much like a modernized version of Jason Bourne, the action scenes and acting was good and all, but the dialogue and the overall complexity and masterpiece of the plot was toned down a lot.
The lines in this movie don't have as much meaning to them like they did in the earlier films, and it just felt a little like a normal action movie with the characters of the Bourne universe sprinkled in.
All in all, "Jason Bourne" exhibits the qualities of a great action movie, however doesn't bring back a whole lot of the authenticity of a Jason Bourne movie, and is worth watching if you're bored.
