Review of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) by Paul G — 15 Dec 2010
A classic fantasy film, with still-brilliant stop motion effects by genius Ray Harryhausen. Most people rave about the climatic seven-skeleton smack-down at the end, but I prefer the colossal bronze man, Talos.
Still, who really cares, right? The acting is pure beechwood, the plot is merely an excuse to weave some monsters into a quest, but its all done with a childish zest that makes you overlook the clunkiness.
Watch it on a double bill with Clash of the Titans, and forget your troubles for a few hours! And you can keep your CGI!!!! (sorry, but I had to say that...).
