Review of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) by David C — 07 Mar 2013
The famous stop-motion animation of Ray Harryhausen is by no means realistic, but his models have a tangible quality that makes them feel far more "real" than the CG monsters of contemporary fantasy movies.
The enormous walking statue that towers over the heroes like the Colossus of Rhodes, the winged harpies that hector them from the air, and the enormous army of skeletons are all truly fun to watch despite the movie's overall campiness.
Honor Blackman, best known as Pussy Galore from "Goldfinger," is quite good as the goddess Hera, Jason's benevolent but mystical patron.
