It is one thing to pay homage or draw influence from other great movies of a particular genre, but the references and obvious influences in Jarhead to movies like Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now and Platoon are distracting.
As a result, Jarhead is a good movie with some excellent cinematography and some great performances, but it still doesn't live up to it's potential.
