Review of Jarhead (2005) by Scott S — 06 Jul 2009
Jarhead (2005) -- [6.0] -- Beautifully shot and acted, but lacking in narrative thrust and thematic originality (same shit, different war). Jake Gyllenhaal's character (based on a real soldier) has a very confusing arc -- he loves war, he hates war.
.. maybe the confusion is reality. I'd like to think all stories about war are worth telling, but this one isn't quite as compelling as others. Good performances by Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx and Peter Sarsgaard.
