Review of Jarhead (2005) by Mike N — 10 Nov 2009
To begin with, Jarhead is nothing like your obvious war drama. In fact, it has very little to do with actual warfare itself and rather takes the route less (or never) travelled by exploring the emotions that accompany people who are forced to give into monotomy and intense boredom.
Gyllenhaal plays his role beautifully and provides a few original bursts of humour along the way. A movie that is ultimately unbalanced, but as great as it is perplexing.
