You gotta give a war film props that doesn't really on combat for it's intensity .. but about halfway through I started noticing things weren't quite meshing and the plot became convoluted and unexpectedly something significantly different in tone that how it began .
. still, those are only minor flaws, as the writing is believable and the acting is superb .. great Gyllenhaal performance, directed perfectly by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road).
