Review of Jarhead (2005) by Aaron A — 15 Oct 2013
Brilliant film, this is only the 2nd war film I've watched, first of which was Black Hawk Down. This is much better than BHD as the characters gel better with each other and the acting is better making them more dimensional and with more depth.
There was more camaraderie between the characters in one scene of Jarhead compared to the whole of BHD Gyllenhaal is brilliant as the lead as Tony Swofford who is a scout sniper in the marines fighting in the desert storm but also fighting himself psychologically as are some of his colleagues.
The scene where Troy and Swofford aren't allowed to take their shot is raw, passionate and very well acted. I'll admit there were times where the film felt a bit flat but all in all a great film!
