Japon is offensive, socially and artistically, if evaluated according to the cinematic standard. Yet this film is NOT pretentious and certainly NOT vulgar. It is honest. The Roman playwright Terrence explained the concept poignantly: "Nothing that is human is alien to me.
" A word of advice: watch alone.
