Review of Japanese Story (2003) by Diane J — 08 Feb 2009
I adore this tough yet wonderful story. It is a clash of cultures/love story set in the rugged Australian mining outback. Toni Collette is brilliant as a cheesed off geologist who is forced by her boss to show a Japanese businessman the outback. Hiromitsu is silent and inscrutable.
The story meanders slowly until a horrific and unforseen event quickens the pace. Only at the very end of the movie are his inner thoughts and motivations revealed.
