Review of Jane Eyre (2011) by Lesley D — 26 Sep 2011
DISCLAIMER: I have never read Charlotte Brontë's novel "Jane Eyre," nor have I seen any other cinematic adaptations of it.
My friends probably aren't surprised that I saw last year's "Alice in Wonderland" only because Anne Hathaway was in it. Annie did well as the White Queen, but, in my opinion, Mia Wasikowska was amazing as the titular lead. When I heard about "Jane Eyre" coming out, I was excited. Although I may be a sci-fi/fantasy/superhero fan at heart, I can still enjoy a good period drama, such as the Dickens-inspired "Nicholas Nickleby." Unfortunately, "Jane Eyre" failed to deliver on many levels. Although Ms. Wasikowska did the best she could, the film's out-of-order chronology and confuzzling plot made this one a dud. If you love Brontë's original work, or any other celluloid versions of it, watch this for yourself to see if you like it. Otherwise, I'd suggest staying away.
