Review of Jane Eyre (2011) by Michael M — 01 Oct 2011
Much anticipated re-make of my favorite Bronte novel (any Bronte, any novel) JANE EYRE. I must admit to being a big disppointed in this rendering, despite some wonderful performances, good cinematography and a unique approach toward the source material.
Instead of a chronological approach to the material, we begin with Jane lumbering upon St. John Rivers - the rest of her experiences are told in flashback. Dame Judi Dench makes Mrs. Fairfax the one to watch in the narrative, but I never really caught the inner fire of Rochester and Jane's romance - despite intense performances by Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikiowska.
Shadows (literally) of Orson Welles still linger on the project in my memory, but this is a worthy attempt - all in all.
