Review of Jane Eyre (2011) by Cat J — 28 Oct 2011

Jane Air not Eyre. This movie should have been beautiful through and through. Why we love Jane Eyre: she is a headstrong passionate rebel with an indomitable spirit who wears austerity as a costume to cope with a pain-ridden existence. With Jane (Wasikowska) nearly motionless next to her love Rochester (Fassbender) the man seems as though acting to the air. Wasikowska stands there like a picture beautifully framed: she should be fighting desperately within herself, holding back a lifetime of love she's never had a chance to give that's suddenly awake and screaming to come out of her telling her it's finally okay to love someone in return. That would be hard to hold back, wouldn't you think! But Wasikowska makes holding that back look easy. I could cuss I'm so pissed, she made me pause the move and ask what's wrong? Wasikowska, does going through all that heart wrenching pain when you so desperately want love feel easy? She appears effortless and austere rather than a restrained passion-rebellious spirit. Wasikowska has no love-passionate rebel in her voice. I was so let down, I love Wasikowska and dearly dearly love Jane Eyre, the 1996 version had it right casting the child-Jane as Anna Paquin because she delivers stubborn, can't-be-restrained, passionate love. But this, this doesn't even rank with love that can't be bound. I'm pissed. I would rather just make the movie the myself because I know wasikowaska has it in her. *(&Q^#$&*^(&*!!!!!

This could have been beautiful in the heart and soul, not merely just to look at. Three stars for music and photography. No stars for love screens that are incomplete. Doesn't anyone know unbound passion anymore? For crying out loud! )&^)&^&(*&^(&*^!
