Review of Jane Eyre (2011) by Emma D — 20 Oct 2012
Another adaptation that fails to stand out from the rest. Fassbender, for me, was the perfect Mr Rochester and the cinematography was absolutely stunning but other than that, I find it hard to believe that this will evoke the sympathies of its audience; it needed more passion! It also wasn't believable enough.
And Wasikowska, although typically a rather good actress, just didn't cut it as Jane Eyre. Without a stellar actress in the main role, it was hard for my attention to sit with this film. If it weren't for Fassbender's performance, I doubt whether I would have finished it.
The script, however, was beautiful but how could it not be when it's based on Bronte's gorgeous book. I wanted more from this adaptation and all we received was mediocre at best. MUST TRY HARDER NEXT TIME.
You know there'll be another in the next ten years!
