Review of Jane Eyre (2011) by Ninjaw P — 08 Jan 2013
It's hard to do a costume drama well and not get lost in all the decor. This one lacks the virtuosity of, say, Joe Wright's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, but its stately naturalism still manages to avoid stuffiness and actually better fits Bronte's Gothic plotline, with its long-standing secrets and forbidden desires.
Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender are fantastic actors perfectly cast as the leading couple, and the romantic charge between them is riveting. It's hardly innovative, but it's still consistently gripping.
