Review of Jane Eyre (2011) by Nicole T — 21 Feb 2015
Jane Eyre was the first book to instill in me a passion for literature, and I am so thoroughly happy with this movie adaptation. The casting was perfect, and I could not have chosen a better pair than these two on screen for Ms. Eyre and Mr. Rochester. The book's thematic elements and heart-wrenching prose were translated on screen quite beautifully. The use of lighting and costuming and screenplay was not at all overdone and just right. :).
Not all was translated onto film, which is why I was previously tempted to give this film a 4.5/5 star rating (esp since I adore the book so much). However, I quickly came to my senses and realized that this fact was not a fault of the film and is only the result of the impossibility of having two mediums touch your soul in exactly the same way. ESPECIALLY if you have read the book, watch this film; it is as heartbreaking as it is passionate. I am so so SO impressed.
