"Jane Eyre" stole into theaters last year, and exited in almost exactly the same manner. I was not able to catch it in theaters during its brief stay, but was more than delighted when I found it at my local video rental store. I am a huge fan of Charles Dickens, so this film immediately caught my attention, with its 1800's European setting. This picture follows the life of Jane Eyre, a governess seeking employment, (after whom the movie is titled). After viewing this movie, I can safely say that it appealed to me in many of the same ways that a Dicken's novel does, because of the superb acting, wondrous visuals, and of course, the pure script.

First off, Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender must be recognized. Taken separately, Mia Wasikowska portrays the humble, but passionate Jane Eyre perfectly. Alternatively, Mr. Fassbender gives the dashing Edward Rochester, Jane's new found employer, an intense flare. Yet, the real charm occurs when these two actors come together. They seemed to have a bond beyond the movie, and exchanged the beautiful 1800's English dialogue, (which I will address later), with ease. Now, every great cast needs a great environment to interact in. Fortunately, "Jane Eyre," keeps the beautiful scenery of Europe firmly held in its grasp.

The opening scene of, "Jane Eyre," provides a stunning example in regards to the beautiful environment. Jane, surrounded by glowering grey skies, lies on her back. She sobs, and her tears mingle with the equally heavy downpour from the skies above. Yet, in the midst of the sorrow, verdant hills poke their slopes through the gloom, as if to dispel some of the darkness. This sample of the film's.

Visuals may seem like a strange mixture of dull and bright. However, the two elements seem to balance each other out excellently, which is proved time and and again as the film progresses. The scenery always fits the atmosphere. Another facet of the film that works splendidly, is the deliciously pure script.

Many times, in order to accommodate and/or appeal to a certain crowd, directors tend to curtail, cut, and callously change scripts for movies that are based on books. "Jane Eyre's," director, Cary Fukunaga, would have none of that, however. I think this was the single most important decision that was made, in regards to the production of this script. This film could almost be, "viewed," with closed eyes. The dialogue is stunningly beautiful, and captures the feel of 1800's Europe with ease.

Overall, "Jane Eyre," succeeds due to it's powerful duo of actors, found in Ms. Wasikowska and Mr. Fassbender, dazzling scenery, and its uncorrupted script. Upon the commencement of the credits, (the satisfied viewer), will want to.

Hopes to kindle even more magic, and transport themselves back to old Europe once again.
