Review of Jamon Jamon (1992) by Kate H — 29 Jul 2010
For a period in time, Bigas Luna was set to become one of the finest spanish directors around, but put it straight, Luna is no Bunuel and certainly no Almodovar.
That's what we could call a romantic sexual comedy, which is a weird style by itself, and as open minded as I could be, I couldn't but find very harsh moments in this film. It's so much sexual complications taken that the lover who sleeps with the girl also sleeps with her mom, whom herself sleeps with the father of her girl's lover, and the stalker who's constantly in sexual activity with the primary girl also sleeps with the mother of the girl's essential lover - fiance, not to mention that the main girl is in love with the FATHER of her fiance from the very beginning......Woaaah can you dig that ???? And I just can't seem to know why the world do need to see a full naked bullfight.....Anyway, the actors were just amazing especially Cruz and Bardem who did extremely well. The music and the sceneries were relaxing and sets a beautiful tone to some romantic scenes. It's not a must-see, but if you're a fan of spanish films, you won't wanna miss that one.
