Review of James and the Giant Peach (1996) by Thomas H — 05 Aug 2010
I remembered small scenes of the movie from watching the movie a long time ago, and I liked it, but I forgot about the movie. When I found out that it was coming out on Blu-Ray, I decided to get it. Today, I watched it with my sister after getting it in the mail from Amazon, and absolutely liked it!! My sister, on the other hand, though it was going to be better. Let me say what I liked about the movie.
First, the acting from the boy that played James was very good, and his song was very touching; actually (this is the second) most of the songs in the film were touching, especially the one about family. Third, the beautiful stop-motion animation, which made Henry Selick famous. My favorite of all the doll characters had to be the spider, and James. These two were made with great skill.Fourth, is the quirky, Broadway musical style in which the film was made. Lastly, the charismatic characters. The Centipede's Brooklyn accent gave him his charm.
The only thing I did not like about the film, was the fact that it ended. Although my sister didn't like the film, I thought it was a quirky masterpiece.
