Review of James and the Giant Peach (1996) by Edgar T — 21 Nov 2010
This was a sweet and lighthearted film for the most part; trippy as all but nothing that'll make you question the last beverage you drank (well maybe). Many of the characters are simple and quirky. Ambition, adventure and hi-jinks were had.
The pacing made the film seem a little short, I was left wanting a little more, most specificly (and really, only) the interaction between James and the Bugs.
*Spoiler*.
I couldn't help but feel that some of the underlying tones when it came to "The American Dream" when it pertained to suposedly English folk and English and other European esuqe bugs, to be annoying. Like the part at the end when The Glow Worm says (In her British accent.) "God Bless The Colonies." Eh... I didn't dig that. I mean, I'm not anti U.S. but don't get a British bug to pander to "The Colonies" thats just rubbing it in.
*End Spoiler*.
This is a good one for the kids. There was suprisingly one curse word in the film, but eh it wasn't a really bad one.
