Derived from Roald Dahl's endlessly unique children's novel, James and the Giant Peach stars a little orphan boy (Paul Terry) who is obliged to live with his two horrific aunts (Miriam Margoyles and Joanna Lumley).

His salvation lies in a gigantic peach that is populated by friendly insects (Susan Sarandon, Simon Callow, Richard Dreyfuss, Jane Leeves, and David Thewlis). James and his friends decide to journey to New York City with the peach as their transport, but a series of unfortunate obstacles hobble their path.

This charming Henry Selick production blends live action footage with the idiosyncratic stop-motion one finds in Selick films like Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Filled with strong animation, amiable characters, affable surrealism, and acute attention to detail, James and the Giant Peach is one of the most underrated family films of its era.
