Review of James and the Giant Peach (1996) by Gena D — 20 Jun 2013
I think the book was better. The movie took a lot away and changed other things so much that it often forgot to touch on things. Such as the aunts who die in the book when the peach rolls over them. I see why they would change them, but to have them somehow drive underwater across the Atlantic?
They touched on the cloud-men that Ronald Dahl wrote if but not to extent they could have given that 5 or more chapters greatly involved them and their weather.
And what happened to the silk worm? Evidently they felt it an unnecessary character.
Regardless it was well done, the animation was fun and the recreation of the aunts was phenomenal. Exactly as described. So that makes up for the loss of the silk worm or the less pleasant personality of the spider.
Beast enjoyed it but wasn't hooked.
