Review of James and the Giant Peach (1996) by Baurushan J — 05 Dec 2013

Rarely has there been a film that I hated but everyone else liked because movies have been my thing ever since I was a toddler but in this case, I have to hate this movie! The stop-motion animation is mesmerising but that's just a one-trick thing.

The songs were awful, the lyrics were even worse, the beginning of the film was unpleasant, nothing in the movie makes any sense, the moral I guess was something about facing your fears or dreams but they throw that in at the last minute so why would I bother and finally, this fantasy world is unrealistic and illogical like mad! I refuse to give the outline of the movie in fear for myself that my brain will burst and bleed, just like it did when the musical numbers appeared in the film.

The story is a generic child abuse and facing-your-fears story but I'm pretty sure the original children's book written by the legendary Roald Dahl wrote something a lot better than this pile of dog shit! The child actor who played James isn't really that great and his performance gets on my nerves making me more and more impatient.

This is a horrible kids' film and I've seen much better from composer Randy Newman. I didn't like James and the Giant Peach and this movie gets a 2/10!
