Review of Jakob the Liar (1999) by Ed L — 24 Oct 2007
I cried the first time I watched this film. Incorporating the word "the Liar" would automatically raise another person's eyebrow. "What's good about lying?", one would ask. Stir your thoughts on this, then.
What is the truth, which is a lie? Probably, the "genuine lie" and the "real liar" is not doing something about the predicaments in life that has been slapping our attention so many times that we don't even feel those slaps anymore.
We don't even bother. Jakob, starred by one of my favorite actors, Robin Williams, did not lie. He made them realize that there is not only hope but they can do something about it. But then again, with Jakob's death in the end, who would continue to relive that "lie"? It should be you I suppose.
Get off that Truth your living in (with a capital T), lie against their own "lied truth".
