Review of Jacob's Ladder (1990) by Mike P — 17 Nov 2008
This is a brilliant anti-war movie. The tag line is enticing and very true: "The most frightening thing about Jacob Singer's nightmares is that he isn't dreaming..." This is movie that excels at scaring an audience by using a clever technique that I'd love to see in this era of over-the-top Gorenography.
Jacob's Ladder isn't frightening because of what's seen, it's frightening because of what isn't seen, on both the literal and figurative levels. Obviously there is tons of rich allegory regarding the use of names in this movie, which is just one small savory bit of this movie that I enjoy thoroughly.
