Review of Jacob's Ladder (1990) by Michael M — 30 Aug 2010
A movie that was obviously far ahead of it's time. The imagery and storyline were very well received and the characters were fleshed out quite remarkably. However, it kind of went off on several tangents that made the movie's secret quite obtuse. I have to give props to Tim Robbins, his performance was dynamic in ways that did not distract from the main idea. As I said before the ending was kind of easy to call with all of the clues that were brought to the audience's attention. Whether this was intentional or not is hard to tell, though.
Some parts of the story did not add up, though. There were also several loose ends that were never tied. Though with this kind of movie, I guess they felt they didn't need to be tied up. If you watch this movie, twice, it will more than likely make a lot more sense the second time around. Notice that the quarter was face up, and then in the second shot, it was tails up.
