Review of Jacob's Ladder (1990) by Kevin N — 27 Feb 2009
A film which grows more and more intruiging every time I revisit it. The whole thing is an exhaustive experience, one that drains and abuses but somehow finds a way to be strangely touching and poetic.
If it weren't for such an impressive collaboration between maker and actor the film wouldn't be anywhere near as powerful as it is, but Tim Robbins is electrifying and Lyne takes his hand in an overwhelming darkness.
For those patient enough to absorb it in full, this is an absolute essential for movie-goers of every assortment.
