Review of Jacob's Ladder (1990) by Braulio D — 09 Oct 2009
If Science of Sleep captured what it feels like to dream, Jacob's Ladder puts us in a nightmare. A gritty psychological thriller, we follow the paranoid Singer as he tries to unravel the unsettling mysteries that are shoving their way into his consciousness.
Seeing it for the first time almost 20 years after the fact, the ending was easy to call (though in hindsight I'm not sure how much sense it makes). Yet that isn't the point. The goal is to let us experience what our confused protagonist does, and in that it succeeds.
