Review of Jacob's Ladder (1990) by Veronique T — 18 Jan 2010
Quick glimpses of strange and often disgusting or disturbing things, an unreliable protagonist through whose eyes you are riding co-pilot. Enough humor and action to keep your blood up, and actual tension that gets broken by jump scares that are not repeated to diminishing returns.
The ending could have been better, the cast a little lighter (my god the number of small parts with actors that make you go: "Hey isn't that the guy from _______?"), but really this film works very well with the alternative realities, timeline questions, sanity checks, and overall mood.
