Review of Jacob's Ladder (1990) by Brett B — 07 Mar 2009
Although the script is a bit jumpy here and there, Jacob's Ladder is still a strong character-driven thriller. The subject matter is fascinating and the characters (particularly Tim Robbins as Jacob) are well constructed and engaging.
My principle concern with the film is that it is not quite as frightening as it could have been, as it really lets the story take a backseat to the characters. That said, for what it is, it works. The message of the film and the basis for it are thoroughly interesting.
If you like psychological thrillers, Jacob's Ladder is definitely worth checking out.
