Review of Jackie Brown (1997) by Joseph H — 19 Mar 2011
What's worse then a boring movie? ...A really LONG boring movie! The movie starts off promising, but then quickly turns into a substandard "heist" movie. Quentin Tarantino is known for his run on scenes, but they are usually acceptable. However, when the dialogue is boring and you don't care much for the characters, it is really brutal. Other than Samuel Jackson's performance, this movie doesn't offer much. Samuel Jackson does his usual thing. Yells and gets really excitable and then starts swearing. Nothing new or special, but it is fun to watch. Robert De Niro is wasted in this movie. He barely speaks.
Overall, if this movie was made by a 'no name' director and didn't have the "Quentin Tarantino" label, there is no way this movie would be considered the classic it is. If this movie wasn't hyped up by the loyally blind Tarantino fans who believe Tarantino can do no wrong, this movie would have been forgotten decades ago.The only people that watch, re-watch, and own this movie are the "Loyal" Tarantino fans. Even the average Tarantino fan can honestly admit this movie isn't that great.
