Review of Jackie Brown (1997) by Emely R — 20 May 2012
I may be one of the few people to prefer this movie to "Pulp Fiction." "Pulp Fiction," like "Reservoir Dogs," suffers from being too aware of itself in an attempt to be cool.
"Jackie Brown" simply relies on great performances (and they're all great) to tell an interesting story. It's basically a heist movie, but Tarantino's reverence for the form makes a decent attempt at elevating it to something else.
Pam Grier is great, as is Samuel L. Jackson as the batshit crazy gun dealer, but the real star of the movie is Robert Forster as the bail bondsman.
